The MUSISTAS project, short for traditional music at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST) at the service of Social Action, proposes the development and application of a program that uses musical literacy to stimulate and create synergies between two minority and vulnerable groups in the IST community: i) the senior community (> 60 years) ; ii) the community of students from Portuguese-speaking countries, namely from emerging countries. This project was developed by developed by assistant professor Ana Paula Falcão together with Luís Sanfins and Henrique Granja, Master students from Chemical and Aero-space Engineering, respectively, as well as assistant professor Pedro Serrão and Ana Fragoso, an administrative staff from IST. The group intends to: i) develop a platform that allows the provision and management of content that promotes musical literacy and encourages the participation of the senior IST community; ii) involve the two communities in the collection of musical identities of a traditional nature, seeking to cover the greatest possible geographical diversity, and to develop a musical proto-instrument that is unifying and representative of the traditions of the countries involved; iii) create a repertoire of musicalities that stimulates activities within the IST community but also promotes other academic communities, strengthening geographic and academic ties.
