Adelino Galvão graduated in Chemical Engineering (1986) from Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), having a PhD in Chemistry (1993) at the same institution. In 1988 he joined the Department of Crystallography at the University of Pittsburgh as an associate researcher and in 1990 IST as a trainee assistant. Since 1993 he holds the position of assistant professor at IST. His scientific activity has been developed as an integrated member of the Structural Chemistry Center, where until 1998 he developed works in the areas of X-ray diffraction and quantum chemistry. Between 1999 and 2010, he interrupted his scientific activity to occupy several administrative positions at IST. In 2010, he resumed scientific activity in the area of photochemistry, an area in which he currently develops his activity. He is the author of 77 scientific articles and 2 book chapters with an index h = 17. As a Professor of Higher Education, he is responsible for the General Chemistry curricular units for Industrial management and electronics engineering at IST Tagus campus and Quantum Chemistry at Alameda campus. In 2018 and 2019 he was also responsible for the Chemistry course in the master’s in Military Aeronautics at the Air Force Academy. Since 2016 he is Secretary-General of the Portuguese Chemical Society. He is also a member of the SPQ School Manuals Certification team and is an accredited trainer by the Scientific-Pedagogical Council for Continuing Teacher Education. He has been collaborating with Ministry of Education, leading the Chemistry team, in the definition of the core curriculum for all courses related to chemistry in Basic, High School and with ANQEP for students choosing professional paths.
