Hugo Nicolau is an Assistant Professor at Instituto Superior Técnico of University of Lisbon (IST-UL). He’s also an integrated researcher at INESC-ID, visiting researcher at OpenLab (Newcastle, UK), and collaborator at the Interactive Technologies Institute (LARSyS). His research interests include Human-computer Interaction and Accessibility within the field of Ubiquitous Computing. He focuses on the design, development, and evaluation of novel interactive technologies for people with disabilities and older adults. Hugo’s goals comprise creating useful and usable technologies that improve people’s access to information, products, and services by leveraging individual abilities. His work in human-computer interaction and accessibility has been published in many top venues. He has previously served as conference chair, organizing member, program chair, and program committee member on several international conferences and workshops in his field. He received his PhD in Information Systems and Computer Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon in 2013.
