M. Teresa Carvalho is Mining Engineer with Ph.D. in Mining Engineering at Instituto Superior Técnico (IST), in the area of Process Control. She worked at Somincor, Sociedade Mineira de Neves Corvo, for 8 years. Since 1988, she is professor at IST, being Associate Professor since 2015 (with Habilitation since 2018). She coordinates the MSc in Geological and Mining Engineering (MEGM) and the BSc in Geological and Mining Engineering (LEGM). She develops research in CERENA (Centro de Recursos Naturais e Ambiente). Her main topics of teaching and research are mineral and solid waste processing with special focus on raw materials recovery. She coordinated several national and international research projects. Recent coordination activity includes the ERA-MIN project “Utilization of green chemicals in non-energy extractive industries” and the project “Mobile-Pro-U – Mobile Unit for the processing and recovery of glass cullet”, funded by Sociedade Ponto Verde. She is author of more than 50 papers in journals and conferences and she supervised more than 30 Ph.D. and MsC students. Currently, she is national representative on the Management Committee of the COST action “Mining the European Anthroposphere” (CA15115) and coordinator of the Working Group “Resource potential of mining residues”. She is also the coordinator of the “Integrated services for geoenvironment” Line of Action of C4G, the Co- laboratory for Geosciences and she is member of the Representatives Assembly of the Portuguese Association of Engineers (Geological and Mining – South Region).
